Anyone who wishes to pursue a more pure and healthy lifestyle will at some point encounter vegetarian cooking. some people say that man was not made to eat meat and that vegetarianism is not only good for you, but more natural to the human species. Whatever it is, vegetarian cooking can be fun, healthful and delicious. There are many degrees of vegetarian cooking and how animal free you go is up to you. some vegans go so far as to have no meat, no dairy, and not even honey or gelatin products. It can get challenging to prepare meals when you have to be so careful, but certainly it can be done and with the advent of mega-sized natural food supermarkets, vegetarian cooking has become more convenient and easier than ever before. So whatever your degree of commitment to not using animal products is, there is a niche in vegetarian cooking for you.

Basically, vegetarian cooking is about preparing delicious and nutritious snacks and meals without the use of animal products. The simplest for of vegetarian cooking would be just steaming a vegetable in pure water. No major preparation is involved and no other ingredients are necessary. By lightly steaming the vegetable you render it more edible and easier to digest and this type of vegetarian cooking so so easy. All you really have to do is place your vegetable of choice in a pan, put an inch of water in the bottom and bring it to a boil. The steam created should be held back some by the pan lid so the entire vegetable is enveloped in steam and cooks completely. It is best to not have the vegetable sitting right in the water, but if you don't have a steamer basket, you can still steam. Steaming is the easiest to cook without animal products, but you can certainly saute your vegetables in vegetable oil, olive oil, sesame oil or one of the many other oils available. Sesame oil has a delightful aroma and a great taste. You just have to be careful not to cook at too high a temperature as it burns at a lower temp than some other oils.

Vegetarian cooking can be as basic as boiling water to as complex as a seven course gourmet meal. The type of vegetarian cooking you do will depend on your interest level, time and budget. There are many fine books on vegetarian cooking at any of the major book stores and almost every healthfood store has at least a few books on vegetarian cooking. There is also a wealth of information available on the internet. You can learn about the health benefits and get a lot of helpful information and great recipes.
