Some people consider the microwave oven one of the greatest inventions of the twentieth century while some other people consider microwave cooking to be hazardous to your health and wouldn't consider owning one. Regardless of you you feel about microwaves, it can not be denied that microwave cooking is faster and easier than conventional cooking.

If you are going to do microwave cooking, you should do it safely. you can cook all sorts of things in the microwave. You can cook meats of all types like beef, lamb, pork and chicken. You can cook fish in the microwave. You can cook all types of vegetables and fruits in the microwave. And of course you can cook pre-packaged food designed specifically for microwave cooking.

The first thing to know about microwave cooking safety is that all foods need to be cooked thoroughly to destroy any bacteria that may cause food poisoning. You can do this by following these simple hints.

One – If you are cooking large cuts of meat in the microwave, do not cook them on one hundred percent power for a short time. Instead, cook them at fifty percent power for a longer time. This method of microwave cooking allows the center of the meat to be heated and cooked thoroughly without burning the outside.

Two – Instead of cooking one large item in the microwave, it is better to cut the item up into equal sized, smaller pieces. This method of microwave cooking allows all items to be cooked thoroughly and evenly.

Three – When cooking meats and vegetables in the microwave, place all items in a microwave safe dish, arrange evenly and then cover dish with a lid or plastic wrap. allow for some steam venting, but the steam created will cook the food and destroy any harmful bacterial that may be present.

Four – Halfway thru cooking, take the dish out of the microwave and stir the contents. This will help all areas to be evenly heated and will help eliminate any cold spots and help destroy any hidden bacteria.

Five – Whenever you are microwave cooking any meat, poultry or fish, always be certain that the item is cooked through and through. Be certain that the center of the item is not still bloody or pink before consuming.

Six – Whenever microwave cooking pre-packaged meals and food items be sure to follow the heating instructions on the package to ensure proper cooking and safe consumption.

Seven – Know your microwave. There are many different power microwaves and cooking time for all items both fresh and pre-packaged will vary according to the wattage of your oven.
