Cooking Beef

Everyone, except vegetarians, loves sinking their teeth into a nice juicy cut of beef. And who doesn't enjoy a thick steak grilled on the bar-b-que or a plump juicy hamburger with and onion slice? But how do you get to enjoy these pleasures if you don't want to go out to a restaurant and pay some exorbitant price? Well, you learn about cooking beef at home, that's how. There are many cuts of beef for cooking and depending on where they have come from on the animal will determine their price and their price and their tenderness. Beef for cooking is muscle and the muscles that get used more by the cow will be tougher. Generally the cuts of beef that come from the shoulders and legs will be tougher than the cuts that come from the center of the animal. But all the cuts can be made into tasty meals if you learn about cooking beef. And in some cultures and parts of the world, there are parts of the cow that are used for consumption that might surprise you, like cow heel soup that is made and eaten by people who live in the Caribbean.

Basically, there are two methods of cooking beef. There is the dry method and the moist method. the dry method of cooking beef includes grilling, roasting and sauteing. The moist method for cooking beef includes stewing, pot roasting, slow cooking and boiling for soups. These are all great methods for cooking beef if done correctly. Grilling steaks on the bar-b-que can be fun and produce a tender and tasty meal. D

Depending on what type of grill you have (either charcoal or gas), the specifics of cooking beef will vary, but generally since grilling is a dry heat method of cooking beef you will want to start with the more tender cuts of beef, (ones that have more fat content) and cook them at a higher temperature for a shorter length of time. You can sear the beef on both sides at a high temperature then lower the heat or move the steaks to a cooler part of the grill to continue cooking until done to your liking. With the tougher cuts of beef, a moist method of cooking is preferable. If you stew a tough cut of beef at a low temperature long enough, it will become tender. If making beef stew, it is advisable to cut all the meat into similar sized chunks, coat them with seasonings and then lightly with flour and then brown them quickly on all sides at a high temperature before reducing the heat and stewing them as that will give them that added flavor that everyone loves.

Learning about cooking beef will enrich your life and improve your meals. And unless you are a vegetarian, you will enjoy cooking beef as well as eating it.
