Chinese cooking is delicious and can be very nutritious if you know how to do it. There are so many utensils and techniques that the Chinese chefs have developed over the centuries that you can spend a lifetime mastering the art of Chinese cooking. but you don't need to do that just to enjoy some good Chinese cooking at home. You just need to learn some good basic techniques and acquire a few special utensils and you will be cooking like a Chinese chef in no time.
The first utensil you need to acquire is a wok. Woks vary greatly in size, material and price so you should buy the one that best suits your needs. If you will be cooking for a small number of people when you do your Chinese cooking, you needn't purchase the largest wok, but you do want to have room in your wok for all the ingredients without crowding as that can lead to uneven cooking. Woks are available at all major discount and department stores and they are available on the internet and even on TV. so you can buy a wok without even leaving you home. Usually, a wok comes with a few basic utensils you will need to cook with so once you acquire your wok, you are ready for Chinese cooking.
Before using your new wok, you will be instructed on how to season it for cooking and seasoning your wok properly is an important step before you are ready to begin Chinese cooking. The dishes you prepare will depend on what kind of Chinese food you like to eat. There are great Chinese cooking recipes for beef, chicken, pork, fish, tofu and every sort of vegetable. You can find many great recipes available online or in Chinese cooking books that are available at almost any bookstore. Many of the ingredients you purchase will even come with great recipes right on the package. And ingredients are important.
Many people have said that the three most important ingredients in Chinese cooking are ginger, garlic and green onions. These ingredients both separately and in various combinations are the heart and soul of the flavors of Chinese cooking. All three of these ingredients are available fresh, dried, ground and even frozen so you should not have any trouble locating them for your Chinese cooking. Another important ingredient to have on hand for your Chinese cooking is soy sauce. Soy sauce is available in so many forms now that you should be able to find one that best suits your taste. There are even varieties with reduced salt that would be appropriate for people who need to limit their salt in their diet. Once you have these basic ingredients, you are ready to do some great Chinese cooking.
